One of our favorite audio resources is called “Pray the Word with David Platt.”  It is a concise daily audio message, usually lasting just a few minutes, where Pastor David Platt reads a scripture verse, has a very brief commentary and then simply prays through the verse.  We have also found these messages to be great conversation starters with our kids while at home or in the car.  For those of you who aren’t familiar with David Platt, he is currently the Pastor-Teacher at McLean Bible Church, President of the Southern Baptist Convention’s International Mission Board, and he is also the author of the New York Times Best Seller, Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream. Platt also released a follow-up book, Radical Together: Unleashing the People of God for the Purpose of God, in April 2011.  And in February 2013, he released Follow Me: A Call to Die. a Call to Live, which included an introduction by Francis Chan. Platt recently founded, an online ministry resource dedicated to serving the church and making disciples of all nations. is an amazing resource that includes David Platt’s sermons dating back to 2006 when was the Senior Pastor at The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham AL.

Pray the Word with David Platt

Memorizing scripture is not something that comes easy to us naturally and we’ve tried many different methods over the years.  One the best ways we discovered is by capturing the first letter in each word and relying on these letters to help us remember the entire verse.  We included this scripture memory method at the bottom of each page in our book, Praying Through Scripture – A Woman’s Journal.  Click on the link below and scroll down the page until you see the box where you can copy and paste your verse, then click the “convert” button.  This will strip out everything except the first letter of each word, so you can then copy and paste your favorite verses into your own document.
